Lightning Protection



Lightning is an electrostatic discharge between cloud to cloud and cloud to ground during a thunder storm. Lightning Protection System (LPS) channels high energy through defined path and dissipate it instantaneously. This study helps to identify weakness in the present channel system and help the industry to implement corrections and achieve required safety during lightning strikes.

LPS as implemented at the Burj Khalifa, the tallest structure in the World. The LPS amalgamates the advantages of Early Streamer Emission systems and Passive Air Termination systems to safely dissipate the lightning using structural steel. The piles and peripheral earth pits which are treated with permanent earth enhancing compounds provide effective dissipation of lightning.

    LPS WILL BE WORKING ON POINT DISCHARGE SYSTEM THAT WILL WORK WHEN SHARP POINT IS EXPOSED TO STRONG ELECTROSTATIC FIELD. LATER UPON BEING SUBJECTED TO THIS ELECTROSTATIC FIELD, (POSITIVE IONS).THE PIN POINT IS SUBJECTED TO CORONA EFFECTS AND PREVENT EARLY STREAMERS.

BENGALURU : With nine fatalities every month on an average, lighting strikes are taking a heavy toll on Karnataka. Lightning killed 438 people in the last four years. Data from the revenue department shows within the first two months of this financial year, there have been 25 deaths. This includes Tuesday’s incident wherein two farmers in Bidar district died on the spot and four others sustained injuries while they were working in an agricultural field. An official from the disaster management wing said 2018-19 recorded 137 deaths. On an average, 1,750 people die annually due to lightning in India Kalaburagi worst hit: With over 40 deaths in four years, Kalaburagi in north Karnataka is the worst affected among the 30 districts followed by Yadgir, Vijayapura, Gadag and Belagavi. “Going by the data, districts in north Karnataka have witnessed more deaths.
