In Karnataka, Lightning Claimed 438 Lives in 4 years
BENGALURU : With nine fatalities every month on an average, lighting strikes are taking a heavy toll on Karnataka. Lightning killed 438 people in the last four years. Data from the revenue department shows within the first two months of this financial year, there have been 25 deaths. This includes Tuesday’s incident wherein two farmers in Bidar district died on the spot and four others sustained injuries while they were working in an agricultural field. An official from the disaster management wing said 2018-19 recorded 137 deaths. On an average, 1,750 people die annually due to lightning in India Kalaburagi worst hit: With over 40 deaths in four years, Kalaburagi in north Karnataka is the worst affected among the 30 districts followed by Yadgir, Vijayapura, Gadag and Belagavi. “Going by the data, districts in north Karnataka have witnessed more deaths.
